Tirupati: A 15-year-old boy and his 13-year-old brother have drowned in a reservoir in the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.

The brothers, Venkata Chandu and Venkata Nanda Kishore, had swum out to the Kanigiri reservoir near Sangam in the Nellore district on Monday afternoon to cool off.

They were unaware of the strong currents and the increase in water depth after recent heavy rainfall in the area.

"Within minutes of entering the water, the duo were swept away by the strong current," a local police official told the Indo-Asian News Service (IANS).

After the boys failed to return home, their relatives searched for them and found their bodies in the reservoir.

Police have registered a case and have shifted the bodies for post-mortem. The boys' families live in NTPS Colony near Chinnapadugupadu in Kovur Mandal.
