Despite Coordination, Awareness Lapses for Central Gov't Schemes

Despite having the requisite coordination, there seems to be lapses in creating awareness about central government schemes at the grassroots level. This was one of the key takeaways from the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting held in Nellore on Tuesday.

MP Vemireddy Prabhakara Reddy, who chaired the meeting, emphasized the need for better coordination between public representatives and officials to ensure that the common man is made aware of all the schemes he is entitled to.

He also urged public representatives to visit rural areas and identify problems faced by farmers in cultivating crops.

"The main aim of the central government is to ensure that its schemes reach the poor. For this to happen, there must be a cohesive effort from people's representatives and officials," he said.

On the farming front, the MP disclosed that under the Micro Irrigation Project (MIP), sprinklers were distributed to 5,700 farmers, while 29,714 soil samples were collected against a total of 31,231 that were proposed.

On the housing front, he said that 25,640 houses had been completed under the Prime Minister Avas Yojana (PMAY) scheme, against a total of 89,577 that were sanctioned.

Prabhakara Reddy also informed the meeting that the central government was soon to take up 24 projects with a fund of Rs 30 crores under the Rural Infrastructure Facilities Fund (RIFF) in the district.

ZP Chairman Anam Arunamma urged people to make the most of state and central government schemes.

District Collector O Anand told officials to ensure that more beneficiaries joined the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) and Pradhana Mantri Fasal Bheema Yojana (PMPBY) in the district.

MLC Balli Kalyana Chakravarthi, ZP CEO Mohan Rao, and Serpanches across the district were in attendance.

With a cohesive effort from all stakeholders, adequate awareness can be created at the grassroots level to ensure that the benefits of various schemes reach the underserved.
