Tragedy struck in Nellore, Tirupati as two teenage brothers drowned in the Kanigiri reservoir. The boys, Venkata Chandu 15, and Venkata Nanda Kishore 13, had gone to visit their relatives in the area and decided to try a leisure swim in the reservoir.
Unfortunately, they were unaware of the strong currents and increased depth due to the release of water into the reservoir. Within minutes of entering the water, the brothers were swept away.
Locals found their bodies and alerted the police, who retrieved the bodies from the reservoir. The brothers' parents, Banda Govindayya and Seshamma, are residents of NTPS Colony near Chinnapadugupadu in Kovur Mandal.
This heartbreaking news is a devastating reminder of the importance of water safety.
According to a police officer, "The boys had no idea about the dangers posed by the reservoir and couldn't swim to safety."
The police have registered a case and shifted the bodies for post-mortem.
Heartbreakingly, this is not the first time this year we have seen such tragedies play out. Let's strive to be more cautious around water bodies and spread awareness about the utmost necessity of knowing how to swim and the potential dangers hidden in depths.
Remember, it takes just a few minutes for a fun outing to turn into a tragedy. Stay safe!
