Amid tight security, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, former chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, visited Nellore district on Thursday. The visit comes after a tense situation arose in the district due to his scheduled visit to the central prison and the ransacked house of a former YSRCP MLA.
To prevent any untoward incidents, the police deployed approximately 900 officers from various disciplines. However, scores of party activists still flocked to the district from different parts of the state, despite police notices issued to two influential local leaders, restricting mob mobilization.
The situation took a more serious turn when former minister Poluboyina Anilkumar Yadav urged party activists to attend the event. As a result, the police blacked out roads at various locations, including former MLA Prasananna Kumar Reddy's residence in Sujathamma Colony.
In order to control the tense situation, the police conducted searches in Butchireddy Palem, Kovur, Kodavalur, Indukurupet mandals of Kovur constituency and Udayagiri. They also intensified surveillance in YSR Kadapa district to prevent last-minute rushers of YSRCP cadres to Nellore.
The police advised only 10 people to gather at the helipad and 100 people at the residence of the former MLA.
The incidents highlight the need for strengthened security measures and effective communication between law enforcement and political parties to prevent such situations from occurring in the future.
