Speaking at a recent press conference, YSRCP leader Kakani Govardhan Reddy highlighted the difficulties paddy farmers face in growing their crops due to the lack of a minimum support price (MSP). Alleging that middlemen are looting the farmers, he called out local ministers and MLAs for their lack of support. Govardhan claims that the previous YSRCP government allowed farmers to sell BPT paddy directly to traders, but this is no longer possible. He also criticized the rice millers for stealing an additional 150 kg of paddy from farmers and highlighted that while Sarvepalli MLA Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy conducts review meetings, this is only to blackmail the rice millers.
He further alleged that the Somireddy is involved in a 'blackmailing business' and that the MLA has taken a package from realtors to develop layouts around his house, closing irrigation canals.
The lack of procurement centers and proper transportation for farmers' harvests continue to plague the industry, leaving them at the mercy of middlemen.
Will the state government take action to address the concerns raised by the YSRCP leader and ensure that paddy farmers get a fair price for their produce? Only time will tell.
