Indian Star Tharun Mannepalli Moves Into Semis At Macau Open

Indian star Tharun Mannepalli has marched into the semi-finals of the Macau Open after seeing off the challenge of Hu Zhe, surviving a grueling 85-minute encounter 22-20 12-21 21-18.

The 23-year-old Indian demonstrated his resilience and mental fortitude in a fixture that lasted an hour and fifteen minutes to dig out a 21-12 13-21 21-18 triumph.

The world number 48, Tharun, will face second-seeded Malaysian Lee Zii Jia, who dismantled Ireland's Nhat Nguyen 21-16, 21-11, in the last four.

"I think overall it was a good match, and I'm happy with the way I fought even though I made too many mistakes in the second set," said Tharun.

"I was a bit nervous in the third set, but I told myself to focus on each point and play to my strength, and it worked out well for me."

The Indian will be hoping to emulate his memorable victory over Lee Zii Jia at the 2019 Thailand Open.
