Chris Woakes' Oval Test Over Due to Shoulder Injury

England and woeful Woakes suffer a setback ahead of the crucial fifth Test against India as the senior bowler is ruled out with a shoulder injury.

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed on Wednesday that all-rounder Chris Woakes will not take any further part in the ongoing fifth Test against India at the Oval due to a shoulder injury. The 32-year-old sustained the injury while fielding on the first day of the match.

Woakes, who did not take a single wicket in the game, managed to score only 13 runs before being dismissed by Ravindra Jadeja on the second day of the match. It was clear that his presence in the field was hampered as he was seen struggling to lift his arm.

The ECB further added that the injury is not related to the bicep problem that forced Woakes to return home from the tour of the Caribbean in March this year. The all-rounder will now focus on returning to full fitness ahead of the eagerly anticipated Ashes series at the end of the year.

With the series poised at 2-2, both teams will now turn their attention to the fifth Test with players from both sides looking to make a decisive impact on the scoreboard and series outcome.
