Drug Raids in Manipur: 236 Grams of Dangerous Contraband Brown Sugar Seized, 5 Peddlers in Custody

Breaking up the vicious drug trafficking network in Manipur just got a lot worse for criminals, as police just seized a whopping 236 grams of brown sugar, a dangerous contraband substance.

In a major operation over the past two days, security forces have seized a significant amount of contraband drugs, including 236 grams of brown sugar, in multiple raids in Manipur. This is a significant crackdown on illegal drugs, and five drug peddlers have also been arrested along with the seized drugs.

In the first raid, conducted by the Manipur police on Friday, officials recovered 20 soap cases containing contraband brown sugar, weighing approximately 236 grams, along with Rs. 3.87 lakh cash hidden in a house located in Songsibok Thingkangphai village in Churachandpur district. However, the owner of the house, identified as Chinsiathang (52) of Tangpijol village, managed to escape arrest.

In a separate joint operation conducted by the Manipur Police, CRPF, and BSF on the same day, five individuals were arrested and various contraband substances were recovered. Those arrested have been identified as

- Md. Mustakim (39) from Lilong Ushoipokpi Tharaorok

- Md. Arif (20) from Lilong Ushoipokpi Tharaorok

- Md. Ajit (32) from Lilong Makha Leikai

- Mrs Ruhima (26) from Lilong Makha Leikai

- Md. Baboy alias Yahiya Khan (35) from Kyamgei Mamang Leikai

The following contraband drugs were recovered during the raid:

- 2.27 kg WY tablets (Methamphetamine) from Mustakim's residence

- 45 grams WY tablets from Baboy's residence

- 6 mobile handsets, multiple account ledgers & diaries

- 2 vehicles used in trafficking (a Duster ML-05L-0490 & Alto AS-05N-7322)

- 120 empty plastic containers

Mustakim is a habitual offender and was previously arrested by Assam Police in 2022 in Guwahati for transporting 205 soap cases of heroin. He was jailed for two years and released on bail in January of this year. Similarly, Baboy is also a habitual offender and was arrested by Assam Police in Guwahati in 2020 while transporting 7000 WY tablets. He was released on bail last year.

Further investigations are being carried out after both seizures.
