The Hyderabad City Police have recently intercepted a network of smartphone thieves and smugglers, arresting 17 individuals, including five Sudanese nationals. The operation focused on addressing a recent surge in mobile phone thefts in the city. The seized smartphones, worth over Rs 1.75 crores, were mostly high-end models from various brands. Officials seized the devices from a shop in Jagdish Market in Abids, where the gang had stockpiled the stolen phones.
According to KSreenivasa Reddy, IPS, and Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad City, the criminal operation involved systematic late-night phone snatchings in isolated areas using a stolen motorcycle. The stolen devices were then sold to local receivers, who subsequently exported them via sea routes to Sudan, where they were sold at higher prices.
The arrested individuals, involved in various trades and professions, formed a sophisticated network of criminals collaborating across different police station areas. The police will undertake necessary legal action against the international criminals, ensuring that such crimes are halted.
This operation highlights the authorities' commitment to addressing security concerns in the region and serves as a warning to potential criminals involved in similar illegal activities.
