Police authorities in Hyderabad, India, have recently established an Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement (EAGLE) to target the drug trade in Hyderabad's IT corridor, particularly the distribution of ganja (cannabis). Past operations have primarily targeted IT and private sector employees who purchase ganja for recreational use. Recent surveillance operations tracked a ganja seller, identifying him through his coded WhatsApp messages announcing the arrival of "baccha" (Hindi for boy) a codeword for ganja. Within hours of intercepting these messages, officials caught 14 people attempting to buy ganja. Officials were surprised, however, when they discovered that one couple bought ganja despite having a four-year-old child. While the child and the woman were released, the man tested positive for cannabis use and was taken for treatment.

The newly formed EAGLE group is committed to cleansing the city of IT corridors of drug abuse and appealing to parents to monitor their children's activities more closely. They have urged citizens to contact the police or EAGLE's toll-free number 1908 with information on any drug-related activities.
