In a statement, the prosecution charged that Pigford's involvement in drug trafficking had diverted significant quantities of these drugs into eastern North Carolina, contributing to addiction and violence in local communities.

Pigford has been sentenced to 40 years in prison followed by 5 years of supervised release.

He will serve consecutive sentences totaling 55 years in federal prison for his role in a conspiracy to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute controlled substances.
