A strong move against narcotics in Sirmaur.
Recent statistics reveal a disturbing rise in narcotics abuse in Sirmaur. Now, District Commissioner Priyanka Verma has chaired a meeting of the District Anti-Drug Coordination Committee, declaring a zero-tolerance policy towards narcotics.
This comes as the Police have cracked down on offenders, registering 113 cases so far this year. This represents a 77% increase on the same period last year.
The Police have also been working hard to prevent abuse. They have organised farmer awareness camps to reduce illegal cultivation. They have also naturally uprooted cannabis wherever it is grown in the district.
The Police and Education departments have worked together to conduct awareness campaigns and events. They have sensitised more than 3000 students and 500 adults about the dangers of drug abuse.
If you have information about illegal narcotics, you can inform the Police anonymously via the NCB Mans portal or the UMANG app.
The District Commissioner has directed the Education Department to include awareness about drug abuse on Teachers Day on 5 September. She has also instructed the Health Department to conduct rigorous inspections of Nayi Disha centres.
The war on narcotics is finally on in Sirmaur.
