In a stunning display of military might, India launched a joint military operation targeting terror hotspots in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Operation Sindoor involved coordinated strikes on nine locations, the deepest strike against Pakistan since the Indo-Pakistani war of 1971.
The operation was retaliation for the Pahalgam attack, which killed 26 people, mostly tourists. India's defence ministry stated that the military targeted nine sites, including four in Pakistan, such as Jaish-e-Mohammad's Bahawalpur stronghold, and five in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, such as Lashkar-e-Taiba's Muridke headquarters.
"We are living up to the commitment that those responsible for this attack will be held accountable," said the statement, which added that the operation was monitored closely by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Pakistan claims to have shot down five Indian aircraft, including three Rafale planes, one SU-30, and one MIG-29, that entered its airspace during the operation.
This is a developing story and will be updated accordingly.
