# Blow Seized: US Cocaine Intercepted at Canadian Border

In a significant blow to drug smuggling, an Edmonton resident has been arrested for drug smuggling after border officials at Coutts, Alberta, intercepted a truck containing nearly **67 kilograms** of cocaine worth millions of dollars. The seizure took place on Monday during a routine check of a commercial truck coming from the United States.

The cocaine was discovered neatly packaged in bundles wrapped in cling film with apparent Amazon labels on the inside. According to law enforcement authorities, a kilo of cocaine ranges between $50,000 to $70,000, depending on the provincial location, but is typically sold on the street for $100 a gram, irrespective of where you are. This suggests that the seized cocaine at the Alberta border would have been worth approximately $6.7 million had it been sold on the province's streets.

The driver, identified as Trieu Thanh Ngoc Le, a 49-year-old Edmonton resident, was arrested and faced charges of importing a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, and smuggling into Canada.

Despite this success, authorities have stated that combating drug smuggling is not the responsibility of any single agency, highlighting the importance of collaboration in maintaining border integrity and security while denying such criminal enterprises and sending a clear message: Canada is not open for criminal business.
