Chandigarh Police have made a significant dent in cross-border narcotics trafficking, seizing 654 grams of heroin and over 100 grams of cocaine. Estimated at over 1 crore, the drugs originated from Pakistan, with local couriers connecting suppliers to peddlers. The investigation, overseen by Jasbir Singh, SP-Crime, revealed sophisticated networks and courier uses of drones for deliveries.
Six suspects have been apprehended, including Pooja, a local peddler, who was found with 54 grams of cocaine. Subsequent disclosures led to the arrest of smugglers, including Mohd. Juned, who was found with 45.90 grams of heroin, and Nihal Singh, with 36.04 grams of heroin. Both are residents of Amritsar, Punjab.
The kingpin of the network, Amritpal Singh alias Gopi, a resident of Amritsar was arrested and found with 538 grams of heroin. With past NDPS cases and a key cross-border liaison, he coordinated drone-based drops. Two others, Sahibjeet Singh alias Sabhu and Sameer, were also arrested with seizures of heroin and cocaine. All six are currently facing charges under the NDPS Act.
The police have successfully curbed a significant cross-border trafficking operation, with more arrests likely as investigation progresses.
In a statement, the police said the operation aimed to dismantle local drug networks and curb cross-border trafficking. They will continue to pursue such criminal operations to maintain public safety.
