Steps to strengthen measures aimed at curbing drug abuse, preventing trafficking, and ensuring effective rehabilitation of victims have been reviewed and emphasized upon by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Pulwama, Dr. Basharat Qayoom, during the 25th District-Level Narco Coordination Committee (NCORD) meeting.
The meeting, held at the Administrative Complex, Pulwama, intended to review the progress and formulate efficient strategies to combat the drug abuse problem in the district. DC Pulwama directed officers to scale up awareness campaigns to sensitize the youth and community about the harmful effects of drug abuse and ensure the establishment of Nasha Mukt Clubs. He also emphasized the need to strengthen addiction treatment facilities and rehabilitation centers to provide better care and long-term recovery support for victims.
DC Pulwama also instructed the Revenue and Agriculture & Allied departments to collaborate to identify and eliminate illicit cultivation and provide crop alternatives to cultivators as part of rehabilitation measures. He further instructed officers to intensify the inspection of medical shops and ensure that all pharmacies are equipped with CCTV surveillance and computerized billing systems to prevent the misuse of prescription drugs.
The meeting concluded with the assurance of the DC that the administration would continue to address the drug problem and strive to make Pulwama a drug-free district, promoting health, and welfare.
