Seattle Officials Announce Multiple Drug Indictments

Federal officials in Seattle have announced the indictments of multiple suspected drug traffickers in western Washington. 15 drug traffickers affiliated with the Sinaloa cartel were indicted as part of an operation led by the U.S. Attorney's Office, Seattle's Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and the Homeland Security Investigations. The ring is accused of distributing fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine, and heroin throughout western Washington.

Officials explained that the drugs were trafficked by U.S. citizens and individuals here illegally, with some of the drug shipments large enough to be transported by semi-truck. The DEA's David Reames emphasized that the 269 pounds of fentanyl pills and powder seized in the case could have yielded 6.9 million lethal doses, enough to kill every person in the Puget Sound region. The 37-count indictment targets 15 defendants, and 13 are currently in custody while 6 are being sought by law enforcement.

Colin Jackson of Homeland Security said that the trans-national criminal organization not only infected our community with its illicit drugs but also guns and the potential violence that comes with the business. Officials ensured that they will work with their counterparts in the Department of Justice's Office of International Affairs to hold the remaining defendants to trial.
