DA case against Bikram Majithia testimonyed as drug case in court, alleges legal counsel

There is an attempt by the AAP government in Punjab to manage public perception by linking the DA case against Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia with drug smuggling, alleges Damanbir Singh Sobti, who heads Majithia's legal defence. Sobti claims that evidence is being fabricated to ensure the narrative holds up, and alleges that there is a media trial taking place to shape public perception.

There is a Supreme Court judgment that states that no new FIR can be registered on the same grounds, so when the foundation is wrong, then the entire building must collapse, Sobti argues. He also claims that there has been no investigation, and that there are new DSPs, new SSPs being made to join the case, but that none of them have been able to find any material worth mentioning.

Bikram Majithia has cited security threats and requested a separate cell in Nabha jail. There are claims that a man who was an Akali supporter was arrested after he attacked Majithia in jail, and that the prosecution claimed that a good conduct prisoner has been kept with Majithia.

Sobti concludes by saying that his team does not want to get into a political narrative but demands that the case of such public importance should have a live streaming facility so that lawyers are able to address the court only on arguments.
