Narcotics Crackdown Netting More Arrests, But Conviction Rates Are Slipping

Despite a sustained crackdown on narcotics peddlers this year, data provided by the Haryana State Narcotics Control Bureau (HSNCB) reveals a dip in conviction rates for cases registered in the state.

Between January and July this year, 2,161 FIRs were registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, compared to 2,022 in the same period in 2024 a 6.87% increase. Arrests shot up 35.21%, from 2,684 to 3,629.

However, convictions in commercial quantity cases slid from 72.72% in 2024 to 56.75% this year.
