A young narcotics addict has received a 10-year rigorous imprisonment sentence by a local court, imposing a fine of Rs. 1 lakh on the convict, Kishan.
The accused, 25, from Sector 56, was arrested in 2020 with 11 injections of a morphine substitute, which constitute a commercial quantity.
The police filed a challan against Kishan after concluding their investigation of his arrest. The court convicted him of Section 22 of the NDPS Act.
After hearing all arguments, the court rejected Kishan's request for leniency and sentenced him to 10 years behind bars.
The judge stated that narcotics damage the nation's youth and every layer of society and emphasized the alarming proportions of the drug trafficking problem in India.
