Rapper Vedan Granted Bail on False Promise of Marriage Charges

The Kerala High Court has granted anticipatory bail to Malayalam rapper Hiran Das Murali, popularly known as Vedan, in a case alleging rape on the false promise of marriage. The High Court ruled that labeling consensual sex as rape after a breakup is illogical.

The applicant, Vedan, had moved the High Court seeking anticipatory bail in connection with a case filed against him for assaulting and robbing a woman who had previously been in a relationship with him. The Perumbavoor Police Station registered the case based on the woman's complaint, accusing Vedan of rape and criminal intimidation.

The woman alleged that Vedan raped her on multiple occasions while they were in a relationship, and he also physically assaulted her after their breakup. The rapper's attorneys argued that the allegations of rape were unfounded and that the consensual sex between two adults ended organically.

The High Court ruled that the allegations of rape were not supported by the evidence presented and that the woman had consented to sexual intercourse on multiple occasions while in the relationship.

The court concluded that "the allegations of rape are merely a ploy to avenge a broken heart, and therefore, the claim of rape is illogical and devoid of merit".

Vedan and his attorney, Thomas T. George, have reportedly welcomed the decision and are eager to move forward.

This ruling sets a precedent for future cases involving consensual sex within a relationship and emphasizes the need for accurate and factual accusations in cases of rape.
