In a major breakthrough, the Mangalore City Crime Branch (CCB) has seized narcotics worth nearly $11,000 (Rs 10.85 lac) from a man who was trafficking drugs to students of several prestigious colleges. CCB officials arrested Mohammed Arshad Khan, aged 29, from Kerala, and seized 53.29 grams of MDMA, 2.33 grams of hydro weed ganja, and 0.45 grams of MDMA pills from his possession. The seized drugs also included a digital weighing scale, a mobile phone, and other paraphernalia.
Speaking about the operation, a senior CCB officer said drug trafficking in educational zones was a serious concern and that the accused had been distributing synthetic drugs from Bengaluru to sell to students in and around Deralakatte, a locality with a high concentration of colleges and student hostels. Officials suspect Khan is part of a larger supply and distribution network and are trying to trace other members of the racket.
The operation was praised for safeguarding vulnerable student communities and the CCB unit is committed to intensifying efforts to completely dismantle drug trafficking networks.
This is a developing story and will be updated as further information becomes available.
