Police in the UK are investigating a collision that killed two Indian students who were visiting the country to attend a festival and were driving back when their car crashed.
The accident occurred in the early hours of September 11 when Gopichand Batamekala, 23, and Manohar Sabbani, 25, were returning from participating in the Ganesh immersion procession in Nottingham. Batamekala was driving the car when it crashed into a tree. Both Batamekala and Sabbani, who was in the passenger seat, died at the scene.
Nottinghamshire Police detained the drivers shortly after the accident and they now face charges of "causing death by dangerous driving."
"Nottinghamshire Police worked through the night to investigate the circumstances behind the fatal collision on Sunday morning," the police said in a statement. "Early investigations suggest that the Audi had travelled to Nottingham from Derby, where the passengers had been attending a festival at which loud music was playing."
The police added that they had seized the vehicle's sound system and were examining it to determine whether it was a contributing factor to the crash.
The force is now appealing to the public for information, particularly those who were in the area of Derby Road and Nottingham Road in Mansfield at the time of the incident or shortly before.
The passengers' grieving families are being supported by specialist officers, and a fundraiser set up to help with their funeral costs has already raised over 50,000 pounds.
The driver will appear in court in the coming weeks.
