5 Arrested for Operating Cross-Border Drug Cartel

Recently, five individuals have been arrested by the police for operating a cross-border drug cartel. The group was allegedly led by a France-based Punjabi non-resident Indian (NRI) in collaboration with Pakistan-based associates. The police seized 2.25 kg of heroin, Rs 1.05 lakh drug money, a Glock pistol, and a car from the suspects.

Among those arrested, 18-year-old Kiratpal Singh, alias Kirat, was from Vila Teja village in Gurdaspur; 21-year-old Karanbir Singh, the ringleader, was from Baupur Afghana, Dorangla, Gurdaspur; 18-year-old Sukhdeep Singh, alias Sukh, from Fatehgarh Churian, Gurdaspur; 43-year-old Pankaj Verma, alias Bablu, also from Fatehgarh Churian; and 40-year-old Pyara Singh from Ballarwal village in Ajnala.

Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar supervised the operation. He commented that the arrests were made under the supervision of DCP Harpreet Singh Mand and ADCP Vishaljit Singh near Kabir Park. He added that the cartel was operated by a France-based Punjabi NRI associated with Pakistan-based drug and weapon smugglers.

The heroin was allegedly being transported from Pakistan to the India-Pakistan border areas of Gurdaspur and Fatehgarh Churian via drones. After the delivery of the heroin, it was distributed to Amritsar and other nearby border areas. Pankaj Verma, one of the arrested, was previously arrested by Pinjore police for dacoity.

The case, under Sections 21(C) and 29 of the NDPS Act, 1985, has been registered at the Islamabad police station.

This is a developing story, and more details will be released as they become available.
