A group of students allegedly assaulted their classmate, punching and slapping him "more than 50 times" in front of multiple witnesses at Amity University in Lucknow, according to a video of the incident that has gone viral. The victim, a B.A. LLB student, has filed a complaint against the attackers, five of whom have been detained by police. This is not the first time such an incident has happened at the university, and the police and administration are facing questions about their failure to protect students.
The two-minute video, which has been widely shared on social media, shows a group of at least six male students in a vehicle parked at the Amity University campus. A voice can be heard saying, "Hit him, hit him," while a person, allegedly the victim, is seen trying to shield himself by covering his face and head while crouching on the ground.
The victim says he was exiting the library with a few friends when the attackers suddenly appeared and assaulted him. They dragged him by his hair and pulled him into the parking lot, where they surrounded him and continued to hit him.
After the incident, the victim filed a complaint against five of the students, all of whom were subsequently detained by the Police. The victim said that he had apologized to one of the accused for something, triggering the assault.
The Amity University administration confirmed the incident, but would not comment on the record. However, they assured that the students involved have been detained by the Police and that the matter is under investigation.
In a statement, the Police claimed that the victim's clothes were also torn during the incident, but that his condition was not serious.
The incident has raised questions about the safety and security of students at Amity University, particularly in light of similar incidents in the past. Some students have expressed fear and frustration, and called for increased security measures and improved supervision on campus.
The victim in the case is receiving support from fellow students and alumni, who have rallied behind him, demanding justice and accountability.
The incident is a sad reminder of the challenges faced by many students in campus settings, and the urgent need to address issues of bullying, violence, and peer intimidation in educational institutions.
