Instagram is popularly known as a social media platform that is dominated by millennials and Generation Z. From trendy snack recipes to hip clothing options, millennials use the app to garner a following. However, it is not restricted to just that. Unexpectedly, it is also currently being used by a police constable from Amroha in Uttar Pradesh with a significant 45 lakh followers to solve crucial cases.
One such achievement was witnessed recently when the constable helped a 77-year-old woman reunite with her son after 40 years through a viral social media post. The woman, Mataru, aged 77, had not seen her son, Sudhir, since he had gone to Lucknow with his father, who was running a catering business, in 1992.
She had lost contact with him after that. Sudhir had assumed a new identity and had no contact with his mother or any other family members. miraculously, a few months ago, Sudhir saw an Instagram post made by the constable, Rajeev Sharma, in which he appealed to the public to provide information about Sudhir, urging him to return home to his mother. Sudhir contacted Sharma, and after a few verification processes, Sharma ensured that Sudhir was the same person that the Instagram post was looking for.
Sharma commented on the importance of social media and appealed to everyone to stay alert and vigilant towards such cases. He stated that social media has made communication faster and more accessible and has connected everyone virtually. Hence, it can be used efficiently by the police to solve cases and reunite loved ones.
This instance highlights the role that social media can play in fostering a sense of community and assisting in police investigations, even in matters that seem hopeless. After all, no matter how much time has passed, a mother's love for her child knows no bounds.
