Police in Karimnagar district of Telangana state, India, have arrested a woman after her husband was seriously injured in what authorities described as a premeditated attack.

The couple, identified only as Beerappa and Sunanda, had been married for 22 years and have two sons. On the night of the incident, Beerappa was asleep when Sunanda sat on his chest and attempted to strangle him, targeting both his neck and private parts. Beerappa's survival of the attack was nothing short of miraculous, authorities who examined him concluded.

Police said that Sunanda had plotted the attack with her lover, with whom she had been having an affair for some time. The man, identified only as Srinivas, allegedly encouraged Sunanda to kill Beeranda so that they could be together.

After the attack, Sunanda tried to make it look like an accident, saying her husband had accidentally rolled onto the knife she had left on the bed while retrieving clothes from a line to dry. But authorities were not fooled by the attempted cover-up, and after examining the scene and confirming the nature of the attack, Beeranda was promptly arrested for attempted murder.

Beerappa's heroic survival and struggle are a testament to the strength of the human spirit. Authorities are now investigating whether Srinivas was involved in the planning of the attack and if so, what role he will be charged with playing in the attempted murder.
