There is a growing concern over the quality of drinking water supplied in cans in Nellore City, with citizens urging the municipal commissioner to conduct strict inspections of unlicensed RO plants.
Citizens have submitted a representation, through 14th division corporator Kartham Pratap Reddy, highlighting the inefficient and unlawful practices in many RO plants, namely, selling untreated water without proper checks. They stated that almost every household relies on canned water, demanding robust monitoring to prevent health risks. They questioned the lack of effective action taken despite assurances in previous municipal corporation meetings.
They also sought details on the number of plants operating with licenses and ISI certifications and those running illegally. They alleged that the absence of vigilance from the authorities has enabled unscrupulous business practices.
They urged the commissioner to ensure strict action against illegal plants and guarantee the quality of the supplied water. The commissioner must prioritize quality control to protect public health. Furthermore, they requested the minister for municipal administration and urban development Dr Ponguru Narayana to ensure the supply of safe and affordable canned water across Nellore, highlighting the NTR Sujala Sravanthi scheme.
