Rape accused 'assisted in escape' by over 30 villagers in Uttar Pradesh

A rape accused allegedly escaped custody in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, on September 4 with over 30 villagers allegedly aiding his escape. The accused was arrested for raping a woman on August 28 in Ahmedgarh village.

The incident occurred when police were attempting to transfer the accused from Bulandshahr to Siana police station. Over 30 villagers allegedly helped the accused escape, and now all of them have been booked under relevant sections of the CrPC.

According to reports, the accused's family and friends arrived in trucks at the local police station and tore down the shutter, injuring a few police personnel in the process.

"Some officials have suffered injuries and are being treated at a hospital. A special investigation team will probe the incident, and if any police official is found guilty of not doing their duty, action will be taken against them," said Bhojpuradistrict magistrate Vinay Sehrish.

The accused is still missing, and police are continuing their investigation to find him.

This incident shines a spotlight on the issue of perceived authority and its mandate to uphold justice and public safety. With multiple people coming together to aid the accused's escape, it begs the question of the extent of their perceived lack of accountability and fear of authority. These behaviors undermine the justice system and only exacerbate and reinforce the culture of impunity.
