Indian composer Ilaiyaraaja, who is known for his humility and philanthropic activities, has gifted a Rs 4 crore diamond crown to the Goddess Mookambika temple in Karnataka. The 76-year-old musician said that he is only giving back to the deity what he owes her for his successful music career.
The temple's management is planning to place the crown on the head of the idol of the goddess during one of the important festivals and is expecting a huge gathering of devotees.
Ilaiyaraaja, characteristically humble, said, I have nothing; it is all the grace of the mother. I dont talk much; I only do my work."
The composer, who has a strong fan following in southern India, especially Tamil Nadu, is known for his philanthropic activities. He has adopted several villages and schools, besides constructing homes for the economically weaker sections of society.
The musician said that he had planned to visit the temple in November last year, but due to some unforeseen circumstances, he had to postpone the trip. Now that the crown has been successfully offered to the deity, Ilaiyaraaja expressed his wish to visit the shrine once again.
