Indian White-Collar Job Market Expected to Experience Hiring Surge in the First Half of 2025

The Indianwhite-collar job market is set for a significant hiring boost in the first halfof 2025, with 96% of employers (up from 92% in 2024) expressing confidence inhiring activities, according to a report released on Thursday. Among theseemployers, around 58% are adopting a dual approach—both creating new positionsand filling existing roles—marking a notable increase from 48% in the previousyear, the report by Naukri.com revealed. The remaining employers are divided,with 18% planning to focus solely on creating new roles and 20% concentratingexclusively on replacement hiring.

Layoffs are expected to decrease, with only 2% of employersanticipating job cuts, down from 3% in 2024, the report added. IT roles areleading demand across industries, with 37% of employers prioritizing ITpositions—up from 24% last year. Additionally, 42% of employers foresee ITroles experiencing the highest attrition, signaling challenges in talentretention within the sector. Professionals with 3-8 years of experience areparticularly in demand, as mid-career professionals will account for 58% ofhiring activity in 2025, a rise from 53% in 2024. There is also growing demandfor talent that offers both fresh perspectives and hands-on experience.

Dr. Pawan Goyal, Chief Business Officer at Naukri.com, commented,“It’s encouraging to see companies’ strong hiring intentions coupled withsignificant salary increment plans for the first half of 2025. The increasedfocus on both creating new roles and filling existing vacancies across varioussectors signals a positive outlook for the year’s first half.”

Despite ongoing concerns about attrition in early career stages,Dr. Goyal noted that planned double-digit salary increments and stable campushiring trends indicate that employers are focusing on employee retention andlong-term workforce planning. 

Freshgraduates can also remain hopeful, as 34% of employers confirmed that campushiring will proceed as planned—up from 30% last year—offering more stabilityfor new entrants into the job market.
