In a significant operation, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has struck a substantial blow to the illegal drug trade in Maharashtra, seizing a staggering Rs 55 crore worth of mephedrone, a synthetic stimulant drug. This raid, named 'Operation Sahyadri Checkmate', led to the dismantling of a clandestine laboratory hidden within a seemingly ordinary poultry farm in Satara district.
The DRI's meticulous planning and execution were based on precise intelligence, leading them to a remote village in the Karad tehsil. The covert lab, disguised as a farm, was a sophisticated setup, frequently changing locations to avoid detection. Despite these measures, officials seized a substantial amount of the drug in various stages of production, including 11.848 kg in liquid form, 9.326 kg in semi-liquid, and 738 grams of crystalline mephedrone, along with enough raw materials to produce an additional 15 kg.
This operation highlights the DRI's commitment to combating the drug menace. The five arrests made during the raid underscore the involvement of a well-organized network, with four of the accused having prior records under the NDPS Act and MCOCA. The recent bust in Jawali by the Mumbai Crime Branch further emphasizes the growing trend of drug manufacturing units in the region.
As the DRI continues its efforts, the public can expect increased scrutiny on such illicit activities, ensuring a safer environment. This operation serves as a stark reminder of the hidden dangers lurking in plain sight and the importance of vigilant law enforcement agencies. With further investigations likely underway, the full extent of this drug network's reach and impact remains to be uncovered.
