In a significant move to revolutionize vocational training, the Maharashtra government has unveiled an ambitious plan to transform Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) into dynamic skill development hubs. With a substantial investment of Rs 242 crore, the state aims to enhance the employability of its youth, bridging the gap between education and industry demands.
The PM-Setu (Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana - Skill Ecosystem Transformation of Uttar Pradesh) scheme will be the catalyst for this transformation. Under this initiative, ITIs will be categorized as 'Hub' and 'Spoke' centers. Hub ITIs will introduce an impressive range of new courses, with an average of four additions per institute, while upgrading ten existing programs. This strategic expansion will cater to diverse skill sets, ensuring students are equipped with in-demand competencies. Simultaneously, Spoke ITIs will focus on specialization, adding two new courses and revamping eight existing ones, creating a network of niche expertise.
This initiative is a testament to Maharashtra's commitment to empowering its youth with industry-relevant skills. By restructuring the ITI curriculum, the state aims to produce a workforce that is not only employable but also adaptable to the evolving job market. The plan's success could set a precedent for other states, encouraging a nationwide shift towards practical, industry-aligned education.
As the project unfolds, Maharashtra's ITIs are poised to become centers of excellence, fostering a culture of skill development and innovation. This transformation promises to unlock new opportunities for the state's youth, paving the way for a brighter, more prosperous future.
