In a bid to enhance the livelihood opportunities for the youth in Assam, the North East Skill Center (NESC) has initiated a new skill development drive focusing on aquaculture. The program aims to provide comprehensive training to participants on fish farming techniques, water quality management, and sustainable aquaculture practices.
Given the region's rich water resources, aquaculture presents a significant potential for economic growth and employment generation. The skill center has collaborated with leading aquaculture experts to design a curriculum that blends theory with practical experience. The course covers various fish species suitable for local conditions, feed management, disease control, and the use of modern technology in fish farming. Additionally, participants will receive insights into market trends, helping them build a profitable business model.
This initiative is expected to benefit not only the unemployed youth but also small-scale farmers who want to diversify their income. During the program's launch, the organizers highlighted how aquaculture could play a pivotal role in food security and rural development. The training will be held at different centers across Assam, with an estimated 500 trainees expected to participate. By the end of the course, trainees will be equipped with the skills to start their own aquaculture ventures or find employment in established fisheries.
