Telangana Anti-Narcotics Bureau Busts Major Drug Ring, Seizes Chloral Hydrate and Alprazolam

Hyderabad, Telangana, June 23, 2025 – In a significant crackdown on illicit drug trafficking, the Telangana Anti-Narcotics Bureau (TGANB), in a joint operation with the Excise Department, has arrested five individuals and seized a substantial quantity of controlled substances. The bust resulted in the confiscation of 425 kg of Chloral Hydrate and 1.115 kg of Alprazolam, along with two vehicles used in the smuggling operation.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Baspally Rama Goud (45), Burra Ramesh (36), Kottagiri Rajam (59), Ellandula Srinivas (44), and Burra Rajashekar. This operation highlights the persistent efforts of law enforcement to curb the spread of illegal drugs within the state.

Sandeep Shandilya, Director of the Telangana Anti-Narcotics Bureau, revealed that Baspally Rama Goud, a key figure in this ring, was previously arrested last year in a similar drug-related case and subsequently remanded. Undeterred by his prior incarceration, Goud allegedly formed a new syndicate. He reportedly collaborated with individuals in Maharashtra who were engaged in the preparation of Chloral Hydrate, facilitating its transport into Telangana for distribution.

The arrests followed a crucial tip-off, prompting the TGANB and Excise teams to converge in Nirmal district, where they successfully intercepted the suspects and their illicit cargo. The seizure of such a large volume of Chloral Hydrate, often used as a sedative or in the illicit production of other drugs, and Alprazolam, a potent anxiolytic, underscores the scale of the operation and its potential harm to public health. Investigations are ongoing to dismantle the entire supply chain, identify other accomplices, and uncover the full extent of this dangerous network. This bust reaffirms Telangana's commitment to its "zero-tolerance" policy on drug-related offenses.
