The first-of-its-kind Kashmir Super League (KSL), a franchise-based football tournament, is set to kick off in the first week of July, marking a significant development in the region's sports landscape. The unique league has caught the attention of sports enthusiasts and business investors alike, with its auction event grabbing the attention of football giants like Bhaichung Bhutia.
Earlier this week, the Kashmir Premier League (KPL) officials conducted the region's first-ever franchise football league auction at Jammu and Kashmir's winter capital, Jammu. The auction saw the participation of over 140 budding footballers, who were shortlisted from over 250 registered players from all across Jammu and Kashmir. The players were contracted to six newly formed franchise teams, each representing a different zone of the union territory.
"I congratulate the KPL team for starting this wonderful initiative at such a large scale, which will help in discovering new talent in football and will give a platform to showcase their talent on a bigger stage," said Sandeep Chattoo, Additional Director General of Police, Jammu and Kashmir, who was present at the auction event. Through this league, J&K's talented youth have been presented with a pathway to monetize their skills and make a living through sports.
The league will be a annual feature on the football calendar of the region, providing a platform for local athletes to showcase their talents and bag lucrative contracts. Everyone is excited to see how the league will unfold and what impact it will have on the region's sports and social landscape.
