A sentence of death has been imposed on a man in Vizag, India, for his role in the killing of six family members, including two children, in a case of "extreme brutality." The incident took place in 2018 when the accused, identified as Vadda Ravi, and his wife, Sruthi, were asked to leave their household by Ravi's father, who was fed up with their addiction to gambling.
Following this request, Sruthi gave birth to a daughter, after which the father-son duo decided to kill the others in the household to take ownership of the house and the land it was on. Here follows a detailed account of the gruesome events that took place on July 5-6, 2018:
On the first night, Ravi's father, Lingamaiah, was killed by hitting him with an iron rod and a pestle. After that, Ravi proceeded to strangle his sister, Lingeswari, to death with a wire. The next target was his sister's daughter, Priya, who was hit with an iron rod and thrown into a well by Ravi.
After killing his father, on the evening of July 6, 2018, Ravi entered the house by breaking the lock on the back door. He then attacked his sister's two sons, 10-year-old Ravi Teja and 5-year-old Ramu, who were hit with an iron rod and a pestle, respectively, and killed. The couple then stayed the night in the house, convincing their relatives who visited the house the next day that nothing was wrong.
After a few days, the bodies of the children were found, leading to the couple's arrest on July 10, 2018. Both of them admitted their involvement in the killings. Vizag Deputy Commissioner of Police, V. Ramana, said the couple showed "extreme brutality" during the killings and that the severity of the case justified a death sentence.
In a statement reflecting on the event, Ramana said: "The accused showed utter disregard for human life and committed this heinous crime in cold blood. The act itself was shocking, and the police deserved praise for solving the case and bringing the perpetrators to justice."
The judge of the VI Additional Judicial Commissioner's Court, Vizag, imposed the death sentence on Ravi and his wife, who had been charged with six counts of murder each. Meanwhile, Sruthi's sentencing is pending, as she is pregnant.
This case reflects the severity of the act and serves as a reminder of the brutal reality that some individuals are capable of.
