In his farewell speech, Justice PB Suresh Kumar of the Kerala High Court, expressed his concerns about the integrity of the judicial system in the face of public scrutiny and social media comments. He argued that there is now a real and immediate need to regulate social media to preserve judicial integrity and maintain public trust in the judiciary.

Making impactful remarks that shed light on the issue at hand, Justice Kumar emphasized the importance of the judiciary in society, particularly in a diverse state like Kerala. He expressed his views by stating, "The judge is confronted with numerous situations where personal and collective sense-making of social reality is challenged on a daily basis."

He went on to say that "social media has become a space for mass mediation, where public perception is shaped and judgments are analysed predictably without full grasp of the complexities involved." Given the limitations of social media, he believes that greater transparency and more active engagement with the public could help bridge this gap.

He concluded by declaring that "an assertive judiciary which is sensitive to the needs of the changing times and is able to adapt to the social reality, without compromising on its core values, is essential for social progress."
