Narcotics Rehabilitation Centres to Receive NYSC Corps Members

NDLEA to partner with NYSC to deploy corps members to its rehab centres. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has planned partnerships to enlist the services of recent graduates from universities and other tertiary institutions in Nigeria. The agency aims to use the talents and skills of these young graduates in its rehabilitation centres across the country.

According to the agency's director for demand reduction, Peter Ozo-Eson, the move is part of efforts to involve experts and professionals in the fight against drug abuse. He added that the initiative would provide graduates with opportunities to contribute to national development and gain leadership experience.

Ozo-Eson stated that the NDLEA was working to establish partnerships with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to deploy graduates who have completed their one-year national service to its rehabilitation centres. The plan is to deploy them as volunteers or interns to assist in delivering rehabilitation services to victims of drug abuse.

This initiative will help address the shortage of skilled personnel in the agency and provide corps members with the opportunity to gain practical experience while contributing to national development.

He said, "We are going to partner with NYSC to see how we can deploy corps members who have finished their national assignments to our rehabilitation centres to work as volunteers because we have a shortage of staff."

This is a significant move that will help tackle the challenge of drug abuse in Nigeria and offer opportunities for young graduates to be instrumental in providing recovery and rehabilitation services.
