Hey there, tax filers! The income tax department has given us all a bit more time to file our returns for the fiscal year 2024-25. Individuals and HUFs now have until September 15, 2025, to submit their ITRs. But, if you're filing a return for audit or tax refund, or you have any international tax matters, then this article is for you. Understand the extended dates for filing for audit and TP cases here.
The income tax department has extended the deadline for filing FY24-25 ITRs to September 15, 2025, for individuals and HUFs. This extension is valid for non-audit cases, where the total income does not exceed Rs. 5 lakhs. To be eligible for this extended date, taxpayers must not have any claims for tax refunds. Taxpayers should also ensure they do not have any pending proceedings with the Income Tax Department for any previous tax periods.
However, like every tax season, some of us will have to take extra steps and care when filing our returns. This could be due to several reasons, such as being a taxpayer who has filed for audit or tax refund. Or the taxpayer could have undergone a transaction revaluation under Section 92CA of the Income Tax Act. Such cases often require a different filing deadline and an updated understanding of the income tax norms.
