Zimbabwe National Arrested, Raids Conducted in 8 States Linked to Drug Ring

Zimbabwe National, Tariro Mangwana, has been arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in Goa in connection to an international drug trafficking and money laundering ring. This comes after raids were conducted nationwide on August 19th across 8 different states. The investigation was initially triggered by a Goa Police Crime Branch report linking to the 4.3 kg cocaine seizure. In addition to the Zimbabwe national, four Indian nationals have also been arrested in connection to this case.

This drug ring is believed to be operating internationally and using shell entities and benami accounts to disguise the origins of their illicit funds. It is believed that foreign nationals, like Mangwana, were involved in arranging logistics and procuring travel tickets for Indian nationals traveling abroad as drug mules. ED has said that this crackdown is a part of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan campaign, aiming to hit drug cartels at their financial roots and reinforce the objective of a drug-free India.

The agency has stated that they have recovered valuable evidence pointing to a financial trail of drug trafficking proceeds, the use of layering techniques to conceal illicit funds, and the role of secondary handlers in the syndicate. Further probes are expected to uncover more facilitators, beneficiaries, and assets linked to this syndicate.
