In a significant operation, the Telangana Police's Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement dismantled a major interstate ganja smuggling ring, seizing 847 kilograms of high-grade ganja worth over 4.2 crore rupees in the black market. Two habitual offenders from Odisha were arrested in the operation. The bust, conducted in 2025, targeted a smuggling corridor stretching from Telangana to Uttar Pradesh via Malkangiri (Odisha) and Karnataka.
The operation is one of the most substantial and meticulously executed anti-drug initiatives this year. Acting on reliable intelligence, the enforcement team intercepted a pickup truck on August 4 on the Shamshabad road and recovered the substantial ganja cargo. The two accused, Khilla Dhana and Rajendar Bwere, were apprehended at the site.
The syndicate's mastermind, Ramesh Sukri, operated out of Malkangiri, while Jagadish Kuldeep collaborated with local cultivators Shibo and Basu to source ganja from remote forest regions. The gang used a sophisticated network to distribute the drugs, using tactics to avoid detection. The ganja was repackaged in brown tape-wrapped packets to mask the odor and transferred in smaller loads to evade checkpoints.
The pickup truck was purchased by Shaffiq, the syndicate's main buyer from Uttar Pradesh, who arranged for the ganja to be delivered in UP via Shamshabad. The gang used basic communication devices with fresh SIM cards for each operation, disposing of them afterward. This bust has substantially disrupted the smuggling of ganja into North India. Efforts are ongoing to catch other syndicate members, and financial investigations and property attachment proceedings under the NDPS Act and BNSS are underway.
This is a stunning achievement by the Telangana Police in their ongoing efforts to eradicate the drug trade and safeguard society.
