A traffic stop in Priceville overnight resulted in the arrest of one individual and the seizure of a quantity of drugs and a firearm.
Just after midnight on August 24, 2025, the Priceville Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle near the 334-mile marker of Interstate 65. The vehicle was occupied by two adults and an 8-year-old child.
During the stop, officers established probable cause to search the vehicle, which revealed a mixture of synthetic opioids and fentanyl, marijuana, and a firearm all found inside the vehicle.
One adult, Leshawn Demetrius Tate, a 36-year-old from Birmingham, was arrested and charged with multiple crimes, including trafficking in dangerous drugs, chemical endangerment of a child, unlawful possession of marijuana in the second degree, and tampering with physical evidence.
The juvenile passenger was released to a guardian, and the firearm involved in the case has been seized as authorities review Tate's criminal history and pursue potential further charges.
The trafficking of drugs, particularly opioids, and the possession of firearms are ongoing concerns for law enforcement. This arrest occurred during an ongoing effort to address these issues in the area.
