Federal officials in Seattle have announced the prosecution of multiple suspected drug traffickers in western Washington. 15 drug traffickers affiliated with the Sinaloa cartel were indicted, led by Rosario Abel Joaquin Camargo Banuelos, 31, and his brother Francisco Fernando Camargo Banuelos, 24. The brothers directed the drug ring from Sinaloa, Mexico, and distributed fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine, and heroin throughout western Washington. Officials stated that semi-trucks were used to transport some shipments, which also included firearms violations. The DEA conducted two federal wire taps as part of an almost two-year investigation. Officials estimated that the 269 pounds of fentanyl pills and powder seized in this case could have yielded a staggering 6.9 million lethal doses. 13 out of the 19 defendants have been arrested, and the rest are being sought by the authorities.
The charges carried significant prison time, with some defendants facing a mandatory minimum of 10 years. This trans-national criminal organization not only infected our community with its illicit drugs but also guns and the potential violence inherent with their business, said Colin Jackson, acting special agent in charge for Homeland Security Investigations. I am confident that the Pacific Northwest is safer as a result of the arrests we are announcing today.
