NJ Sheriffs Officers Arrested for Looting Luxury Gear during Drug Bust

Essex County Prosecutors and Sheriff have condemned three sheriff officers for stealing luxury goods during a drug investigation.

Consider this damning fact:

"ESSEX COUNTY, NJ Three sheriffs officers have been charged with stealing high-end sneakers and a designer belt from a home that they had searched during a drug investigation."

In January 2023, officers raided the East Orange apartment of Kirk Mansook, who was arrested on minor drug charges. When Mansook returned home, he discovered multiple stolen luxury sneakers and a designer belt missing.

Prosecutors cited surveillance video capturing the officers' heist:

"Essex County Sheriff's Officer Jimmy Rodriguez, 39, of Kearny, and Essex County Sheriff's Officer Fabian Caicedo, 45, of East Rutherford, were caught on surveillance video carrying bags of items from the apartment and placing them in their work vehicle."

Later, Rodriguez and another officer, Erik Udvarhely, 44, moved the bags into their vehicles.

The officers have been suspended and charged with theft and receiving stolen property, among other charges.

Prosecutors and the Essex County Sheriff have underscored the severity of this breach of trust and emphasized that such behavior will not be tolerated.

"No one is above the law and when law enforcement officers betray the public trust, they will be held responsible," stated Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens II.

Conclusion:

Prosecutors and the Essex County Sheriff have taken a strong stand against theft and breach of trust by law enforcement, emphasizing that such actions will not be tolerated. This case underscores the importance of accountability and transparency in law enforcement.
