The BCCI is now targeting a massive Rs 450 crore sponsorship deal after fantasy gaming platform Dream11 decided to exit sponsorships of the Indian cricket team. Dream11 recently informed the cricket board of their inability to continue sponsoring Indian teams after the Parliament passed a law that made real money-based online gaming illegal.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is now looking at other alternatives to make up for the loss of revenue from its partnership with Dream11. According to highly placed sources, the BCCI has a plan for a new category of sponsorship deals for teams that could help them earn up to Rs 450 crore.
The gaming company was also the title sponsor of the Indian Premier League (IPL) - India's professional league for the Twenty20 cricket competition. Dream11 paid Rs 190 crore for the title sponsorship for the 2020 IPL season, which was held in the United Arab Emirates due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The BCCI is now planning to finalise the Rs 450 crore deal within the next few weeks, according to the report. The deal will be executed ahead of the IPL 2023 edition.
With Dream11's exit, there is a lot of speculation about which company could replace them as the title sponsor of the IPL. The BCCI has reportedly received offers from multiple companies, including smartphone maker Vivo and e-commerce platform Amazon.
The upcoming 2023 IPL season, which will be held in India, is expected to be a major milestone for the BCCI in terms of commercial partnerships and broadcasting deals.
The board is putting together the final touches to the media rights tender, which is expected to be released in the coming days, paving the way for the commencement of the tender process that will conclude ahead of the IPL 2023.
