A recent study by Venator Search Partners on key workplace stressfactors, productivity, compensation, and generational viewpoints found that 62%of respondents attributed stress to unreasonable workplace expectations, while28% cited a difficult boss as the main cause. Although long working hoursweren’t the leading stress factor, 68% of participants believed extended hourscontribute to demotivation and higher employee turnover.
Deepraditya Datta, Founder of Venator, noted, “While an idealsolution remains elusive, companies need to adjust to the changing demands ofthe modern workforce. Both businesses and employees should evaluate whatdefines a healthy and productive work environment in today’s corporate world.”
The survey also highlighted that 84% of employees do not receiveadditional pay for working overtime. There was also a strong preference againstmeasuring performance based on work hours, with 80% of respondents advocatingfor performance metrics that focus on outcomes rather than time spent. To boostemployee satisfaction, employers should align compensation with actual workhours, the survey suggested.
Regarding work-life balance, 84% of respondents expressed apreference for a work week of 40-50 hours, with only 2% supporting work weekslonger than 50 hours. This work week length allows employees to better managepersonal and professional responsibilities.
In cities like Mumbai, Bangalore, and Delhi, where daily commutescan stretch 2-3 hours, 90% of respondents felt that 12-hour workdays wereimpractical. They urged employers to consider the realities of trafficcongestion and commuting times when structuring work hours.
