Amit Shah, the Minister of Home Affairs, inaugurated Fast Track Immigration (FTI) facilities at five more airports across India on Thursday. This is part of the government's ongoing efforts to improve the ease of travelling for passengers by reducing waiting times at airports.
The facility has already been launched at six airports last year with an aim to provide fast-track immigration processing to the passengers having immediate boarding priority, reducing waiting time at the immigration check posts. Talking about the launch of the project, Shah said that the project is a matter of pride for every Indian and it will be a catalyst for the country's growth. It will make travel easier for people and also motivate tourists to visit more destinations in the country.
The ministry of home affairs has been working actively to make traveling a pleasant experience for passengers. With the launch of these fast-track immigration facilities, the ministry hopes to reduce the time domestic travellers spend at airports. The facility will be available at a total of 11 airports, with five more additionals making the service available to more than five crore passengers annually.
The project is a result of collaboration between the Public Enterprises Selection Board, the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the Ministry of Home Affairs, and the CIQA (Catalytic IT Modernization and Process Reengineering) division. The goal is to extend this initiative to all the international airports in the country in the near future.
This initiative comes in the backdrop of a series of measures undertaken by the Government over the last six years to transform the domestic aviation sector and boost the country's tourism industry.
This goes alongside the development of under-served regions, the UDAN scheme, and an increase in the number of flights, affordable ticketing, and an enhanced customer experience, to name a few.
Further, with the world becoming more interconnected, the minister hopes to streamline the immigration process to enhance the country's global connectivity and foster a more cosmopolitan culture.
This new development ushers in a new era for India's aviation industry, and many are excited to experience faster and more efficient airport processes.
