Four people have been arrested after a large amount of cash was found in a Kolkata-bound bus on NH-19. A Revenue Intelligence Foundation (RI) operation was conducted at a Palsit toll plaza based on a secret tip-off. The four men, heading towards Kolkata, were unable to produce valid documents for the cash-filled boxes they were carrying. The money has been counted by using a machine designed for this operation, and the amount totaled Rs 72 lakh.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, when the bus was halted at the Palsit toll plaza of the NH-19. The four men, traveling from Bhubaneshwar in Odisha, were unable to account for the money they were transporting, and on inspection, the cash was found to be contained in boxes.
The police have stated that the amount was counted by using a currency-counting machine, and the total value of the seized boxes came to Rs 72,03,000. The four men, residents of Balasore in Odisha, are now in police custody, and authorities are investigating the source of the money.
Revenue Intelligence, a government organization that tackles illegal trade and tax evasion, has reportedly been on high alert, and has conducted multiple successful operations in the past week.
These incidents underscore the importance of reporting large sums of cash transport, and the need for legitimate documentation in such cases.
This operation highlights the ongoing success of the Revenue Intelligence agency in ensuring tax compliance and tackling illegal activities in the state of West Bengal.
