Traders Urged to Share GST 2.0 Benefits with Consumers

In a significant development for the Indian economy, the spotlight is on traders as they navigate the complexities of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) 2.0. At a recent gathering in Nellore, Twenty Point Programme Implementation Chairman Lanka Dinakar emphasized the ethical obligation of traders to ensure that the benefits of this tax reform reach the end consumers. This event, organized by a collaborative effort between the Commercial Taxes department, local professional associations, and the Nellore Tax Bar Association, shed light on the multifaceted responsibilities of various stakeholders in the GST ecosystem.

Mr. Dinakar's address highlighted the broader implications of GST 2.0, stating that it is more than just a taxation system. It is a catalyst for improving the Ease of Doing Business and ensuring essential goods and services are accessible and affordable for all citizens. He stressed that GST officers, consumer advocates, and professionals like chartered accountants and advocates play a pivotal role in maintaining the quality of goods and services while ensuring fair pricing.

The event also served as a platform for various officials to participate in the dialogue. Among them were RTC Regional Chairman Suresh Reddy, Joint Commissioner Kiran Kumar, and Additional Commissioner Satya Prakash, who joined representatives from the local Chartered Accountants Association and Tax Bar Association. They discussed the importance of collective action in ensuring the success of GST 2.0, particularly in protecting the interests of the poor and middle classes. The officials emphasized the need for strict anti-profiteering measures to prevent traders from exploiting the system and urged consumers to use the dedicated helpline, 1915, to report any instances of traders not sharing the benefits of GST 2.0.
